"I belatedly discovered the wonderful, evocative 2016 album ‘St-Homard’ by French guitarist and composer Dominique Dépret aka Mocke a few months ago. Now he’s back presenting a lovely, subtle collaboration with fellow French songwriter Delphine Dora entitled ‘Le Corps défendant’ on the Belgian label Okraïna Records. It features more ambient and folk leanings than what I’ve heard of his previous work, blending the placid serenity of Virginia Astley, Emmanuelle Parrenin, The Durutti Column and Popol Vuh’s ‘Hosianna Mantra’ with the childlike yet slightly unsettling atmospheres of artists like Klimperei, After Dinner and Hamilton Yarns, not to mention a hint of the hauntological that listeners may recognise from the output of Ghost Box Records and Pram."
